Three Medals by Qatar in the Asian Indoor Championship in Iran: Francis & Kuwalia Gain Gold While Rashid Seizes Silver Print E-mail

Three of Qatar's champions could claim medals in the 4th Asian Indoor Championship which was hosted by the Islamic Republic of Iran during 24 to 26 February, 2010. The first gold medal by Qatar was embraced by Samuel Francis in the 60 meters clocking (6, 58s), while the second gold medal was achieved by James Kuwalia in the 3000-meter clocking (7,57,73 m). The third medal was silver and was gained by Ismail Iesa Rashid in the same event clocking (7,57,77m). On this occasion, Mr. Iesa Al Harami, Head of Qatar Delegation, dedicated this Qatari achievement to the Qatari wise leadership and those officials responsible for sports in Qatar. He said in this regard: "We thank God very much on what has been achieved. This is a good start to our athletics champions, and we hope to gain more achievements". Mr. Al-Haami assured that such gains would not have been achieved without the support of the officials responsible for sports in general and athletics in particular, pointing out that Qatar's champions proved their excellence and deserved their medals. He congratulated the champions for gaining these achievements and requested all to make a harder effort and contribution to the Qatari athletics progress. Meanwhile, tonight more Qatari competitors will participate in other events, like Musab Balla and Hamza Darwish in the final of the 800-meter, amid expectations to achieve good results for Qatar. It is worth mentioning that the Qatari delegation participating in this event includes: Mr. Iesa Al Harami (head of the delegation), Mr. Ali Ahmed Saleh (administrator), Mr. Astnslav (coach), and Mr. Ahmed Ali Jassim (coach). The Qatari team includes: Samuel Francis ( 60 m), Hamza Darwish (800 m), Abu Bakar Kamal (1500m), Mohammed Karni (1500), James Kuwalia (3000m), Issa Ismail Rashid ( 3000 m), Issa Bershim (high jump), Rashid Al-Mannai (high jump), and Badr Hashim (pole vault).
